Personality and Appearance: Ameli is best described in a single word: reserved. She is quiet, soft-spoken the majority of the time, and normally will not display what she's feeling beyond a slight smile or glare. It would be entirely unheard of for her to start yelling or crying in public. Frustrations are left for only the closest friends. Her closest friends will also see the more open side of her that she keeps others from seeing. She's a kind person, caring about those in need and wanting to do what she can to help them, and she's a hard worker. History, art, music, and story-telling are her four most favorite things. While she doesn't mind it when others let their emotions flow a bit more freely, she will visibly frown upon more blatant displays of emotion like yelling, screaming, or even getting into heated arguments. These things, she feels, are meant to be kept in private, and even then, they should be approached with a cool head. Friends don't come easily to her, but those she makes are privileged with not only seeing her more free side, they also earn an undying loyalty to the very end. Her clothing choices reflect her relatively reserved personality, and normally consist of simple blouses and trousers or the occasional skirt in browns, blues, and occasionally white.
History: Ameli was born the younger of two daughters to the Lord and Lady Holder of Thean Hold, a minor Hold beholden to Sydir Hold. Laren, her older sister, was already four years old when Ameli was born and was already considered the heir of the hold. Laren took to her baby sister quite well and as Ameli grew older, the two became close friends. Shortly after Ameli turned five, however, their father died in a sailing accident.
She started her education late, nearly six before she began it because of the loss of her father, but she quickly caught back up with her peer, taking to learning in a formal environment well. It was shortly after Ameli turned seven that she met Olester, a boy two years older than her who had been fostered in from Roma Hold. The two became close friends, bonding quickly though they didn't entirely show it for the rest of the children their age to see. Little did they know that Thuli and Olester's parents had caught onto the bond between the two children and were already in the process of drawing up an agreement for the pair to be married when they were 18. It wasn't necessarily an arranged marriage, as it required the pair to remain close, but the reasoning to drawing it up formally was because Olester was the heir to Roma Hold.
When Ameli turned ten, her mother remarried to Marus, the brother of the Lord Holder of Roma Hold, further sealing what looked like would become a long-term family alliance. A year later, little Mareli was born, giving Laren and Ameli a little sister to care for. Then at the age of twelve, Laren met her own unfortunate accident, getting caught in a small group of loose horses and sustaining a blow to the head that would eventually lead to her death. It left the formal relationship between Olester and Ameli strained, as Ameli found herself now heir to Thean Hold, and it was unheard of for the heirs of holds to marry. But the two grew even closer, Olester helping Ameli grieve through the loss of her older sister in a way none of the other children knew she needed.
When Olester turned fourteen, he briefly returned to Roma Hold to request formally to go to the Institution in Shan Hold and gain more education and training under the Education Guild. Ameli wasn't far behind, being an unusual case to be accepted into formal apprenticeship shortly after she turned thirteen, instead of waiting until she was fourteen. Olester and Ameli thrived at the Education Guild, Olester learning the education and art sections of the guild, while Ameli focused on music and history. In private, the two would craft wild stories, but in public, they were focused on the task at hand, even if they were never far from each other's side.
The two were promoted at the age of 16 to Instructor, returning to Thean Hold for their first assignment. They had only been there a year when tragedy struck the island, the earthquake leading to much devastation. When the dust finally settled, Ameli found Olester dead, having been crushed when he pushed her out of the way of some falling rocks near the hold's main hall. Ameli was devastated in a way she hadn't been with the loss of her sister, let alone the father she could barely remember. She withdrew into herself even more than what she normally was, though the rest of her family had come out of the earthquake unscathed.
Thean Hold went relatively unscathed as well, and Marus and Thuli made sure that what damages needed repairing were repaired. Shan Hold, however, was not so lucky and Ameli returned to the guild she was part of to help with the repairs there. She had been at Shan Hold less than a month when a blue dragon landed nearby. The rider waited until she was done with a music lesson with some children, before informing her that she was being Searched to stand for the eggs that survived the earthquake. Accepting the Search as a way to start anew after the loss of Olester, her little sister Mareli became the heir to Thean Hold in her place while Ameli went to the Weyr.
