The Institution: The Institution is the Southern Equivalent of what the Northerners would establish as the College, which would eventually become the Harper and Healer Halls of the north. The Harper Hall is the Education Guild and the Healer Hall is the Medical Guild. The institute is located at Shan Hold, and has halls at every minor and major hold as well as Shan Peak, New Hope Peak, and Residency Peak.
Education Guild: The Education Guild is responsible for teaching the youth of the island. Education begins at the age of five and carries through to the age of 14, when the youth who have not been Searched and Impress continue their education through a Guild. Their other duties also include history keeping. Like their Northern partners, they compose music and ballads, as well as participate in the other fine arts.
Medical Guild: The Medical Guild is responsible purely for maintaining the health of the riders, holders, and other Guilds' members. They maintain what few technological medical capacities remain, as well as learning to use the resources they have at their disposal as replacements. Surgeries, immunizations, and so forth still remain, as those knowledge sets have been preserved. Surgeries are reserved for only serious instances, however.
Engineer Guild: The Engineer Guild is responsible for maintaining the three remaining hovercrafts, the telegraph system, the Astronomy Guild's telescope, and the printing presses. They also maintain the roads, bridges, and other travel necessary items. The Engineer Guild is located at Miner Hold, with an out-reach hall at Shan Hold.
Printer Guild: The Printer Guild is responsible for reproducing written histories, lyrics, and other important notices. They run three presses, one at the Weyr, one at the Institution at Shan Hold, and one at Sydir Hold. Most consider the Printer Guild to be a sub-guild of the Education Guild.
Astronomy Guild: The Astronomy Guild is reclusive and located on the island's most northern peak. They operate a single large telescope much like what Galileo had, as well as many smaller, personal sized telescopes. They also create the expandable telescopes used by the Fishers and other crafts for land based far seeing. Frequently, members of the Astronomy Guild are older individuals who have retired from their primary Guild and just need something to do. The Astronomy Guild is located at the top of a mountain just north of Miner Hold and has not official out-reach halls.
Miner Guild: The Miner Guild is responsible for mining fire stone, metals, gems, and basically anything under the surface of the ground. They process the industrial grade metals and stones to send to the Engineering Guild, the precious metals and gems to send to the Luxuries Guild. The Miner Guild is located at Miner Hold and, while it doesn't have any official out-reach halls, it has outposts all over the northern mountains of the island.
Luxuries Guild: The Luxuries Guild produces everything from glass items, fabrics, jewelry, and so forth. Some fabrics they produce are sent to the House Guild to produce clothing, bedding, and the like. The rest are used to produce more luxury items such as tapestries. The Luxuries Guild is located in Shan Hold, with out-reach Halls at Residency Peak, Sydir Hold, and Nyta Hold.
Foods Guild: The Foods Guild farm, cook, bake, raise livestock...if it's related to food, then they handle it. Their main guild hall is located at Nyta Hold, though they have out-reach halls anywhere that there is farming or rising livestock.
Seacraft Guild: The Seacraft Guild maintains the ships and other boats used around the island and the seas that surround the Island. They mostly fish, however select individuals also work with the dolphins that followed them from the Landing site. Their main guild hall is technically located at Sydir Hold, however they stick to the coastal holds for actual operations. Their largest shipyard is located in Roma Hold.
