Personality and Appearance:
Marika is average at 5’5” and 125 lbs when soaking wet She has long wavy, jet-black hair that she keeps braided to keep it out of the way. Her eyes are a sapphire blue and are always caring. She’s actually
quite pretty and can turn almost any man’s head. She prefers the leather pants like her brother for working with the animals and is always in boots.
Marika is very fun loving. She cares deeply for others as well as
animals and will never hurt anyone intentionally. She takes offense if someone talks badly of animals, no matter what kind. She loves Gathers and likes to flirt with just about anyone who will give her the time of day. She likes to be in charge, but will follow orders without complaint as well.
History: Marika was born 4 Turns after her brother Riklan to Lanlee and Rikart. She loved her life in Sydir Hold and was probably one of the few people who didn’t dream of living anywhere but Sydir.
Marika learned early that she wanted to work with animals. She was always bringing sick animals home and nursing them back to health, so when she turned 10 her parents let her become an apprentice. Marika loved every second of it and took down notes nonstop, so she wouldn’t forget anything that may come in handy later.
She walked the tables at the early age of 16 and studied even harder to make sure she continued to deserve her rank. The girl loved going to the Gathers and anywhere where she could be around people. She was sad to learn of the deaths of the Lord and Lady Holder and was curious to see how their son would handle things now. She had seen Mathias around before, but he was so much older then her that she never really paid attention to him. She flirted with the younger men, not really thinking anything serious anyhow. She was still young after all.
In her 17th turn though her parents informed her the arranged marriage they had made for her. They couldn’t understand why she was so upset. She was going to be the Lady Holder of Sydir. Marika reluctantly went along with the arrangement and found herself married to a man that was a lot older then her.
It didn’t help that Mathias’ two daughters were her own age if not older and they were both very unreceptive to her to begin with. Thankfully with time Meliana and Ameilia at least came to accept her and Marika found herself actually starting to fall in love with the man whom she had agreed to marry. Iliana on the hand made things a bit easier on Marika. She accepted her right away and has called her "mother" ever since.
When she turned 26 she discovered that she was pregnant with her first child. She was thrilled, but scared at the same time. Everyone had heard how Mathias had lost his first wife and she was worried that the same would happen to her. Thankfully Marik was born healthy and
just over 2 Turns later his brother Amarathas was born.
When the earthquake struck early in 1164; many people were tragically lost, but Sydir Hold somehow was spared the brunt of the quake's effects. Marika worked with her husband to help the Holds and Weyr as much as they could. Since they hadn’t suffered nearly as badly as the others Marika didn’t have the heart to turn anyone away.
