Personality and Appearance: Wise, kind, intellectual; these are but the key qualities that accurately describe R'ik. He's also a very able seahand and has a love for the sea, having grown up near the ocean. Ever the scholar, R'ik appreciates art and music, and is rather fond of music; never one to resist whistling or singing a seafaring tune taught to him by his parents. On the other hand, there are times when he can seem a bit distant and remote, as if lost in his own thoughts or perhaps musing over past events; it just takes time for him to come back to the present.
A bit taller than most men, R'ik stands about six feet in height, with an athletic, fairly trim build and has a healthy tan on his skin. His brown hair spills down in cascades just below his shoulders, but otherwise he keeps it from getting into his face. His gray irises seem to be almost piercing, as if perpetually studying the situation in front of him. Two prominent features on his face are his slightly larger-than-average nose and broad jawline. A well-groomed moutee frames his upper lip, mouth, and down to his chin completes the image.
History: Kanrik, or "Rik" as he liked to be called, was the firstborn to Kamara and her husband Kanir at Sydir Hold. Due to its proxmity to the ocean, Rik grew up learning to respect the waters, having nearly drowned when he was very young. Had it not been for his parents' constant vigil and patience, the young man would have an absolute fear when it came to stepping away from land. Still, he enjoyed going on sailing expeditions with Kamara and Kanir, and later when their daughter Ranara came along, the four were often found on the boat instead of on land. That was typical for most children who grew up at Sydir, and later would begin his formal apprentice under his parents' watchful eyes. His mother had a lot of experience interacting with the Luxuries Guild, so she was able to furnish their home with various artworks, leading Rik to appreciate fine art (and have a keen eye for the "finer things in life".) Likewise, Kanir was always singing a little sailing ditty whenever they set out to sail, hence the young man also developed a talent for music.
As his parents were always lending a hand to those whom were stranded on the waters, Rik was always on-hand to help out however possible, instilling in him a trait for kindness and compassion. Yet even for someone like him, there were occasions when he'd be caught daydreaming during one of the classes taught on the mainland. Sadly, even the most joyous of times had to come to a tragic end, when a brief yet strong quake shook several boulders loose from the rocky shores, crashing into the sea; two of them collided with the boat, causing it to break apart. The sudden waves were enough to overpower Ranara; Kamara did her best to rescue her daughter but was caught in the back by a small boulder, snapping her spine and rendering her helpless. Kanir was able to get Rik to hold on to some debris to keep the young man afloat, and when the elder sailor went under to rescue his wife and daughter, he never resurfaced. Eventually, Rik was rescued by a passing ship, but the poor lad was so distraught that he wasn't so sure he could ever return to the seas.
Again, Rik was faced with the difficult trial of having to learn how to overcome his fears, but this time he had no one to turn to. What he didn't expect, though, was the day he was Searched. Barely fourteen Turns, Rik went from having virtually no family to having an adoptive family when he arrived at New Caledonia as a Dragon Candidate. It took him some time to open up to his peers, but once he was able to start functioning as a productive member of the Weyr was when he was able to Stand for a Clutch. He was fortunate to Impress the first time around to a fairly-large looking blue dragonet named Onath, and the young hatchling was soon able to help his lifemate overcome the emotional distress.
Shortly after he became a full Rider, Onath was discovered to possess the ability to Search. It was also during this time when R'ik met a young woman who called herself Randy, and the two hit it off rather well. That friendship soon blossomed into a genuine love as Onath caught Green Cleoith on her maiden flight, and from that night forward R'ik was never far from Randy's side, especially after his weyrmate found out she was pregnant with their first child. The Greenrider had a difficult pregnancy, and in spite of her having to be ordered on bedrest their daughter Kikaya was born healthy. R'ik doted on his daughter, and it was clear that he was highly protective of her and her mother both.
In spite of following the tradition of fostering children out to the Holds for their protection and upbringing, R'ik saw to it to visit Kikaya whenever time permitted. That time has grown suddenly very precious, as a recent earthquake struck New Caledonia, leaving a mere sixty dragons including Onath and Cleoith.

DragonRider's Information
Dragon’s Name: Onath (OH-nath)
Dragon’s Age: 17
Dragon’s Color: Blue (1C6BA0)
Dragon’s Personality: Onath is the ideal match for his Rider, as he possesses the same traits of wisdom, kindness, and intellect that has served R'ik well over the Turns. He is also very patient, choosing to carefully evaluate each situation before making what he thinks is the best move for him that will produce the best possible results. Ever adopting an "older brother" mentality, Onath encourages those around him to adopt a more cautious and thoughtful approach instead of blindly rushing into a situation; if that person or dragon doesn't listen to him, he'll adopt a "told-you-so" attitude. In spite of this, Onath is a hard, focused worker and relies on his quickness, agility, and rare insight to get both him and his Rider out of danger.
Dragon’s Appearance: Onath is slightly bigger than most Blues, roughly the size of a small Brown, but don't let that fool you into thinking he isn't as fast or agile as other Blues, or even perhaps he has just as much stamina as a Brown. While his size may be deceiving, Onath is every bit as quick as the rest of the Blues from New Caledonia. His hide is a deep blue, akin to the color of the deep waters, with a lighter shade on the crest of his head, his paws, and his tail.
