Randy
couldn't have been happier. Her baby girl
was actually a candidate. And only 10-Turns. It was had to imagine,
but it was true. The green rider left her beloved Cleoith sunning on
the ledge by her blue mate Onath.
Which meant her mate had to be around somewhere. Randy stepped into
the weyr, pulling her long, brown hair up on the top of her head as she
walked. She slipped out of her jacket, tossing it on the couch as she
walked by. It would be nice to change into something more comfortable.
Maybe
they would even be able to go down and see Kikaya.
Randy stepped
into their room and found a loose shirt and skirt to change into. She
knew she didn't have drills, so it would nice to wear a flowing skirt
for a bit. Plus, she liked
dressing up for her mate from time to time. And it made her feel
special. She changed clothes and sat down to brush out her hair.
R'ik was finishing up his chat with the Candidate Master when he
decided to see how Randy was taking the news. Clearly his weyrmate
had been rather ecstatic about the whole situation, especially since
it was Onath that determined Kikaya was a potential match to be paired
with a dragon when she was old enough. Whether it was partiality on
the Blue's part, or just some really good abilities passed down to
their daughter from both sides; R'ik couldn't say, but he was
definitely in a celebratory mood. He had stopped by the makeshift
storeroom to grab a bottle of wine, sent from Sydir Hold, and then by
the kitchens to grab a couple of goblets and some fruit and cheese.
Once he had the items in his possession, R'ik made his way towards the
weyr he shared with
Randy.
Cleoith was a rather unusual Green, as she recently had produced a
small clutch of dragonets recently. She had also chosen Onath as her
consort, and even though Greens were known to be extraordinarily
fickle, Cleoith was proving to be an exception to the rule. The two
dragons were practically inseparable, just as Randy and R'ik were
never far apart from each other. There was ample reason to celebrate,
and hopefully he could convince his weyrmate to go for a little
moonlit swim later on that night after everyone was asleep.
He opened the door to their quarters, and found Randy dressed in a
loose shirt and skirt, sitting in front of the mirror and brushing out
her hair. He grinned and whistled appreciatively at her. "Darling,"
he greeted her, setting down the goods on a nearby table, then walked
up behind her so he could wrap his arms around her waist. He
leaned
in to kiss her on the cheek. "I was hoping to catch you in a good
mood, now that our baby girl has become a Candidate. I brought some
fruit, cheese, and wine for us to celebrate. Perhaps a little later
this evening, you and I could slip away to the shore for a little
moonlight swim?"
The
green rider hummed to herself as she worked a knot out of her hair.
She still couldn't believe that their baby was a candidate. And it was
amazing to think that Onath had noticed that. Especially in one so
young. There certainly must have been something very special about
Kikaya. Of course Randy had always thought that, but the woman was
partial to her daughter.
Randy hadn't heard R'ik walk in and spun
around quickly when she heard the soft whistle. A smile touched her
face. "Well, hello yourself handsome," she said cheerily, setting her
brush down on the table. It
looked like he had certainly come prepared. And if she was honest, she
was a bit hungry. "You sure know the way to my heart," she teased,
leaning back against his strong chest. "I still can't believe our baby
is a candidate. I'm so proud of her." The green rider brightened.
"Oh, when have you ever had to ask me to go swimming?" she asked,
looking up at him with a loving smile. She loved R'ik to pieces. He
and Kikaya were the most important people in her life.
R'ik was
all smiles when Randy returned his greeting, then leaned back against
him. "We've been together for a long time, sweetheart," he said,
kissing her on her cheek again before helping her onto her feet. "If I
didn't know the ways to your heart by now, Cleoith wouldn't have picked
Onath again." He pulled out a chair for her at the table, then once she
was seated the Blue Rider sat across from her. "Micaela thinks
Kikaya will do well as a Candidate," R'ik said as he picked out a
large-looking berry from the bowl, then a piece of creamy-looking
cheese. He popped both into his mouth at the same time and chewed
thoughtfully, then continued chewing for a few moments before
swallowing. "Mmm," he said. He then opened the bottle of wine and
poured some into a goblet, then some into the other before putting the
bottle aside. He passed a goblet to his weyrmate and took the other for
himself. "I know this is probably a bad time to even suggest it," he
said. "Not that I'm complaining about the lack of our love life, because
there really isn't." Here we go, he thought before taking in a deep
breath. "I was wondering if we could have another baby. Kikaya's ten
now, and to be honest I really miss hearing the cries of a little one."
Randy
chuckled a bit at the obvious. "Well, yes that is true," she agreed
with a
bright smile. "Although Cleoith likes Onath, so I don't think we have
anything to worry about." She got up and moved to the table where they
could talk easier. "Oh I hope so. I never expected her to be a
candidate so young," she admitted. "But I couldn't be more thrilled."
Randy picked up a piece of cheese and nibbled on it. Her stomach
rumbled a bit, showing that she was much hungrier then she had
realized. She raised a dainty brow, wondering just where he was going
with this. She definitely didn't think they had any problems in the
love life department. Her eyes widened a bit. She hadn't expected that
at all. "A baby?" she asked softly, thinking about it. "Well, I don't
see why we couldn't try and see what happens."
R'ik honestly
wasn't sure how Randy would react to his suggestion about wanting to
have another child. Sure, the love life had been interesting, but
in his opinion it grew even more erotic during the time his weyrmate
was carrying Kikaya in her womb...at least, the times when she wasn't so
weepy and prone to erratic mood swings. Otherwise, the times they had
been under the furs together were in his mind rather fantastic. But all
of that was practically ancient history, as their sole child was now
ten Turns of age and on her way to becoming a young lady in her own
right. R'ik was a bit leery of having to be awakened in the middle of
the night to help with feedings, but when thinking about the overall
experience he did miss the sound of a little one crying in the middle of
the night. It let him know that he had helped to bring a new life into
this world, and he knew that Randy wouldn't be in her childbearing
Turns forever.
Her eyes widening at the suggestion, R'ik
immediately felt his cheeks flush. Shards, this isn't going to go over
very well, he thought when
Randy didn't sound so sure. But when she said she wasn't opposed to
trying, a sigh of relief escaped his lips. "You know..." he said,
trying to smooth things over a little more, "We could always try it
tonight during our moonlight swim..."
Randy had been a bit
shocked by R'ik's suggestion. Sure, she had loved carrying Kikaya and
holding the little girl in her arms, but the labor and end of her
pregnancy hadn't gone real well. Although Kikaya had been born healthy
and neither had had any side effects. Perhaps it was time to put her
fear away and try for a second little one. They were both getting older
and it was hard to say how much longer she would be able to carry a
child. And she did miss it if she was honest. She had loved the times
she had spent with Kikaya as a baby. Not to mention when R'ik helped
out and the three of them felt like an even tighter knitted family.
She
bit back a
chuckle when she saw the flush on her mate's cheeks. She hadn't meant
to worry him. She just hadn't ever thought about having a second
child. "Oh, you are bad," she laughed, a twinkle in her eye. "But I'm
certainly not opposed to that."
R'ik grinned when his weyrmate
teased him. "You know me, sweetheart," he said, lifting his goblet to
clink it against Randy's. "I wouldn't have it any other way. We'll
have to slip away and not let the guards catch us, but I think I know
where we can go. I remember there was a rather prime swimming spot near
Roma Hold I used to visit when growing up. I wouldn't think it's
changed much since then, and tonight should be a bit warm. We'll bring
some towels with us, but otherwise we won't need any clothing once we're
in the ocean."
The young woman smiled brightly. "Oh yes I do.
Which is why I know what a rogue you can be," she shot back
playfully. She looked aghast before laughing. "And what would our
daughter think if she knew her parents had snuck out of the Weyr?" she
asked, batting her lashes at him. She felt like a young girl again in
love for the first time. "Mmm, sounds inviting," she agreed, taking a
sip of her wine. It had been a while since they had tried something
this daring. She was certainly up for it.
R'ik shrugged. "Our
daughter wouldn't know the difference," he teased. "She's a Candidate
now, and has to be in her barracks by a certain candlemark. You and I,
on the other hand, don't have such restrictions on us." He took another
sip of wine followed by taking another piece of fruit into his hand.
He looked at the berry for a moment, then brought it up to Randy's lips
as if wanting her to take a bite of it first.
"Hmm, true enough,"
she laughed. She remembered the days of being a
candidate. They had been long and grueling but worth it. And she knew
he was right. Kikaya wouldn't know the difference. "Oh I like the
sound of that," she grinned. No restrictions. And their dragons
wouldn't mind at all. Randy watched him curiously, a smile touching her
lips before taking a bite of the berry that he held toward her. She
licked the juice off of her lips.
R'ik couldn't resist leaning in
to kiss Randy on her lips before she had a chance to lick the rest of
the juice off of them. The hint of berry was enough to tantalize him,
and he put the berry down so he could deepen his kiss to let her know
just how much he really wanted to be with her in the most intimate
fashion possible. He wanted to wait until nightfall before they could
slip away, but Faranth he just couldn't resist her.
The green
rider gasped softly as a shiver ran down her spine. She should have
known he would try something like that. She moaned against his lips as
she leaned into his kiss. Shards, he was sure making it hard to wait
until later. Randy was breathing hard as she pulled back, her face
flushed. "Tempter," she whispered, leaning back in her chair.
"Who,
me?" R'ik tried to feign innocence as he sat back in his chair,
polishing off the other half of the berry. Although he would admit, he
wished the time would fly by a little faster so the two of them could
indeed slip away for their little romantic tryst under the moons and the
stars. It was hard enough to resist taking his weyrmate over to the
bed as it was; not that he was opposed to a roll under the furs with
Randy, but he really wanted to make it as intense as possible by making
love to her either on the sand or in the ocean by the light of the
moons.
"Oh no, not you," she laughed a bit breathlessly. It was
certainly going to
be hard to wait. Although she had a feeling that once they slipped
away it was going to be a night to remember. She never knew for sure
what R'ik would come up with. He kept her on her toes and she loved him
to pieced. "Too bad it's still early," she teased him, reaching over
to brush her nails lightly along his hand. "We'll have to think of
something to keep ourselves occupied for a bit," she said.
"Simple,"
he said with a conspiratory wink as Randy brushed his hand with her
nails. "It's still daylight, and there aren't any duties for either of
us to tackle today. Let's take our little picnic to the beach, shall
we? Cleoith and Onath can come along, too. Kikaya's probably busy with
her chores, anyway."
She raised a brow. Simple? Just what was
he planning? "No, that's true. We've finished for today." She thought
for a minute. She would love to see
their daughter, but R'ik was right. She probably was busy with chores
right now. "and just what will we do at the beach?" she asked
innocently, trying to figure just what he was thinking. She never knew
for sure with him.
"Why, spend the day together, of course," he
said with a smile. "Just the two of us with our dragons. Go for a
walk, enjoy a little picnic, watch the sunset together...and cap it off
with that moonlight swim. What do you say?" There wasn't much else to
say about what he wanted to do, as it was pretty obvious. R'ik wanted
to spend some quality time with Randy, and although if he was accused at
simply wanting to get into her pants, he wouldn't be able to deny that
one bit. But to him, it was more than just wanting a roll under the
furs with her - or, in this case, either a roll in the sand or in the
ocean. R'ik never could get enough of Randy, as his desire and love for
her always remained strong.
The green rider smiled, her eyes
dancing. "Mmm, that sounds like a very good idea. I can't remember the
last time we just got to spend some quality time together," she said.
She knew they had both been busy and there had been nights when they had
both fallen into bed exhausted. Today though was going to be
different. She wanted to spend the entire day with her mate and maybe
later or even the next day they could make some time to have lunch or
dinner with their daughter. "You've convinced me," she said, stretching
a bit. "That's the best idea I've heard in a while."
It didn't
take long for R'ik to gather the rest of the fruit and cheese into a
basket, and he remembered to re-cork the wine bottle. He'd have to
remember to stop by the kitchens and get two clean goblets, but
otherwise the only other things needed were two towels and a blanket.
Excusing himself for a moment,
the Blue Rider headed out of the weyr he was sharing with Randy, and he
started whistling a ditty that he learned when he was much younger.
Music had always been a part of his life, just as much as the sea, and
now he was looking forward to spending the remainder of the afternoon
and that evening with the woman he loved.
Once he had everything he
needed, R'ik headed back to the weyr. Hopefully Randy would be ready to
go, knowing that she preferred wearing pants instead of a skirt whenever
riding on Cleoith's back. He helped Randy mount up onto Cleoith, then
after securing the basket of goodies to Onath's straps, the Blue looked
over at his bonded and keened a question.
{{Where are we going, Mine?}}
R'ik
grinned. "Down to the shoreline near Roma Hold, Onath. The four of us.
The water will be warm enough in spite of the cool weather." He made
sure to fasten his flight jacket to give him some warmth for the short
trip Between. "We're going to have
some time to ourselves since we're done for the day."
{{Sounds like fun.}} Onath looked over to Cleoith and crooned at her. {{Ready?}}
Randy
watched as R'ik gathered everything up. A smile played across her full
lips. Apparently he was excited about their having some actual free
time together as well. She knew she was. She wondered just what he was
up to though as he disappeared out of their weyr. Well, she was sure
she would find out before too long. This would certainly be nice. They
hadn't had a romantic day together for quite some time. Actually, she
couldn't remember the last time they had had the whole day to
themselves.
The green rider had decided to leave the skirt on
just to see what R'ik's reaction would be. She did prefer to ride
Cleoith in pants, but this was a special day. She could suffer for a
few moments to please her mate. She was just finishing with the
straps when R'ik returned. She flashed him an impish smile as he
helped her onto her beloved green.
Cleoith carefully stood up and
spread her wings. The green was ready for anything. And with Onath
going with her it was even better. };I am ready. I want to swim,:{ the
green said cheerily.
couldn't have been happier. Her baby girl

now he was looking forward to spending the remainder of the afternoon
and that evening with the woman he loved.
{{Where are we going, Mine?}}
R'ik
grinned. "Down to the shoreline near Roma Hold, Onath. The four of us.
The water will be warm enough in spite of the cool weather." He made
sure to fasten his flight jacket to give him some warmth for the short
trip Between. "We're going to have
some time to ourselves since we're done for the day."
{{Sounds like fun.}} Onath looked over to Cleoith and crooned at her. {{Ready?}}
Randy
watched as R'ik gathered everything up. A smile played across her full
lips. Apparently he was excited about their having some actual free
time together as well. She knew she was. She wondered just what he was
up to though as he disappeared out of their weyr. Well, she was sure
she would find out before too long. This would certainly be nice. They
hadn't had a romantic day together for quite some time. Actually, she
couldn't remember the last time they had had the whole day to
themselves.
The green rider had decided to leave the skirt on
just to see what R'ik's reaction would be. She did prefer to ride
Cleoith in pants, but this was a special day. She could suffer for a
few moments to please her mate. She was just finishing with the
straps when R'ik returned. She flashed him an impish smile as he
helped her onto her beloved green.
Cleoith carefully stood up and
spread her wings. The green was ready for anything. And with Onath
going with her it was even better. };I am ready. I want to swim,:{ the
green said cheerily.
