Candidate Rules
Weyr-bred Candidates are between the ages of 14 and 24. Searched Candidates can be as young as 12.
Note: Pearl Candidates may be as young as 10, however they will not be considered official candidates or allowed to actually Stand. These will be Stands Impressions.
Candidates must attend all lessons and chores or face IC consequences. Also, in OOC terms, more active posters will be more likely to get what they want come Hatching time. Its only fair.
Candidates are encouraged not to have sexual relations, especially girls. Pregnant candidates will not be allowed to Stand, because childbirth is a traumatic experience in a young dragon, it might cause them to go between.
Candidates must in the Barracks by lights out, or face OOC consequences.
Firelizards are the only pets permitted in the Barracks.
Hatching Procedure
In OOC terms, the hatching will commence as soon as possible after there are close to enough Candidates for all the eggs. The projected date will be put on the news feed as soon as possible. Several days before the Hatching, a Hatching form will be posted and it should be filled out and pm'd to the admin for every Candidate standing.
The day of the hatching, the thread will be posted up with the eggs starting to rock. As it continues on throughout the day, it will be divided into several sections, and each section will have several eggs hatching and Impressing. If your character Impresses, you may RP the dragon as soon as it tells you its name. If you aren't available that day, do not fear, you may reply to the hatching the following day, and late replies will not affect your Impression. However, we try to schedule the Hatchings pretty far in advance so hopefully everyone will be available at least some of the day.
IC hatching Procedure
The Candidate Master will call all Candidates to the Barracks to get into their hatching robes. Hatching robes consist of white linen pants, a white pull-on linen shirt and sandals. If there's enough time, the candidates will bathe and maybe get a snack. Once you are bathed and in your robes, the Candidate Master will line escort the candidates down the path to the Hatching cavern. They may give some words of encouragement and then they will proceed onto the Sands. Traditionally, the Candidates form a circle around the eggs, and they bow to the Queen who is guarding the Clutch. Then the Hatching begins.
If a Candidate or dragonet is injured, Healers will be standing by. Once a Candidate has Impressed, they will lead their dragonet off the Sands and to the feeding area as fast as possible. Bowls of fresh meat wil be provided. Candidates need to make sure they chew and don't worry too much if they bite their tongue. After the dragonet is fed, they'll likely want to sleep. The Weyrling Master will then lead the new Weyrlings back up the path to the candidate barracks. The dragonets will be left in the room they're assigned while dragonriders escort the new Weyrlings to Shan Peak for the Hatching Feast. Family will be there, but Weyrlings will only be allowed to stay for the meal before they are escorted back to New Hope Peak.
