Personality and Appearance: Luthien's most defining feature, and chief beauty, is her long silky black hair. It is so dark it looks to be made of shadows. Her skin is milk-pale, with a nearly flawless complexion, and her clear gray eyes stand out under her delicately arched brows. There is no doubt that she is beautiful, she has a face suited to both serenity and laughter, and the willowy figure of a dancer. Luthien has a kind disposition, but is not outgoing. She is mostly suited to solitude or small groups and is uncomfortable in crowds. Singing and being out in nature are her two favorite pastimes and she is inclined to wander aimlessly doing both unless some other duty calls her. Although she doesn't care much about her station, she expects to be treated with at least a modicum of respect, and will be cold to those who treat her rudely. Luthien enjoys learning and is quite clever, but she doesn't like to show it off. She has a maturity beyond her years that makes her very good at giving wise advice, but it also makes her a bit.. Stuffy... She isn't much into games or jokes, preferring more quiet pursuits. Her sense of humor is somewhat dry, and practically nonexistent. However, she is loyal to a fault, and a very compassionate spirit. She doesn't like to be told she can't do something and is both determined and a bit rebellious. She hates and loves deeply, and would be utterly devoted to a weyrmate or lover who gave her the respect, devotion, and partnership that she needs.
History:
Luthien is the youngest child of the Lord and Lady of Nyta Hold. She was always the pet of the family, being a sweet and attractive child, but luckily she only ended up only a little spoiled. Her father was very protective of her, and didn't let her around other children much, so she grew up a bit isolated and withdrawn, spending a lot of time in the gardens of the Hold. But what she really loved was singing, and she was quite good at it, even when she was little.
The Hold's Educator begged Luthien's father to allow her to apprentice, but he always refused. But Luthien was becoming more and more curious about the wide world that she read about in books and shortly after her fourteenth nameday, she stole a runner and ran off to the Guildhall. They were reluctant to take her at first, because they didn't want to anger Lord Thingol, but after Luthien refused to leave, they negotiated with Lady Melian, and finally Luthien was allowed to apprentice. Although shy, she enjoyed her time at the Hall, and made a few friends. Though many of the boys tried to court her, none of them caught her eye or her heart.
Four Turns later, she made Instructor and received her first posting, which was to the Weyr. Luthien couldn't have been more pleased. She was eager to see how different the Weyr was from hold life, and to be able to have close contact with dragons.
